WHERE IS THE MONEY FOR THE DIGITAL DIVIDE?
The idea of creating an information society where irrespective of your geographical location in the world or your academic knowledge you can have acess to the use of ICT, is not bad at all.It would actually make the world a better place to live. After all through the power of ICT , you can have acess to healthcare information, information on education, stay in Ghana and school in the UK for all types of certificate of your choice without travelling to UK.But the multi million dollar question is whether this quest of bridging the digital divide between the have and have not will be possible before the stipulated time.Poverty is walloping most developing countries across the globe.Unemployment is high, inflation is beyond the control of the policy makers, poverty reduction strategies have come to a complete halt without implimentation because funds are not available.HOW CAN SUCH COUNTRIES BRIDGE THE DIGITAL DIVIDE WHEN WHAT THEY WILL EAT IS EVEN A PROBLEM?WHERE IS THE MONEY FOR THE DIGITAL DIVIDE, UN? As at now some communities in the developing countries have not even seen a common phone booth before likewise mobile phone.Even in some school in the urban centers or better still in the capital, they can not boast of a single computer.Developing countries in the world have a long way to go in becoming a major shareholder in the all inclusive information society by the vear 2015 if the UN is not ready to provide the monies for the digital divide.
